Award presented in honor of fallen detective Bobby Garten

WEST HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) – A fallen Connecticut hero was honored Tuesday evening.

An award has been named for Bobby Garten, the Hartford detective who was killed in September by Ben Bronze Academy, his former school.

He attended the academy for the fifth and sixth grades.

Every year a prize is awarded to the best student at the secondary school. This year it has a little more meaning and is being renamed the Bobby Garten Award.

Eighth-grader Maya receives top honors in the presence of Garten’s parents and brother Will, who also attended the academy.

Garten was only 34 when he was murdered. He was recently honored in Washington DC during National Police Week and his name was commemorated in our nation’s capital.
